14. Use this space for any comments you may have about the course, the instructor, readings, etc.
- Overall, I didn't get anything out of the course. All of the "new" material was covered in the first two weeks, and the work was generally just busy work. The requirements for the course seemed completely out of order, requiring deliverables on the final project before any design documentation was required. Ethics and teamwork would be better placed throughout a number of courses, rather than devoting an entire course to it.
- This course seems like it would be better suited as a component of another class, instead of serving as a stand alone semester. I didn't feel that there was enough material to take up a semester, and much of it was filler. Teaching ethics is obviously important for some students, but to make all of us take the class for an entire semester is just wasteful. I never once opened any of the required texts, and am somewhat resentful that they were even required. I am generally irritated by this requirement, and feel that it is a waste of Prof. Simha's considerable talents, as well as those of Darby and the CS majors. If a student needs help with their atrocious writing, let them go to the writing center--don't force those of us who placed out English through the AP Test to suffer. Get rid of this course and everyone will be better off. Really.
- It is almost the end of the semester, and I do not have an idea of what my grade might be.
- Professor Simha is a great professor, but I have several concerns about the course. Almost nothing was taught in class - I had to teach myself how to complete our semester project. I would recommend having structured lectures every week on web application topics.
- This class was a weird mishmash. Honestly, I think the whole ethics part was a waste, there was too much busy work, and the whole web programming with no teaching setup was horrendous. I think you should also let people use whatever language they want if they know how to use it. JSP is really bad for certain applications where PHP or Perl or something would be a million times better.
Lectures were a total waste of time with guest speakers that honestly weren't very relevant most of the time. There were a few good ones, like the AIM guy, but most of them were boring and didn't seem relevant to the course.
The project had the flavor of .com days of the 90's. Web programming is hardly what I would call software design and a business built on top of that is an outdated idea. You should have people actually design software, not .coms.
