Computer Graphics is the use of computers to create virtual worlds from which visuals can be generated and with which humans can interact. This technology has made it possible, for the first time in history, for humans to create worlds from their imagination and see it, feel it, and interact with it as if it were real. Together, the new technology has revolutionized the way we communicate, analyze, design, express artistically, solve problems, and think. There are two series of courses. The non-programming series is accessible to students outside Computer Science and does not require a technical background. The series consists of CSci 171 Concepts and Applications of Computer Graphics, CSci 181 Computer Animation Design I, and CSci 182 Computer Animation Design II. The series consists of hands-on experiences to allow the student to design, produce, and edit still images as well as computer animations using commercial packages including Photoshop, Maya, and non-linear video editing. The finished pieces are featured in the annual "Festival of Animation." The technical series consists of CSci 185 Computer Graphics and CSci 191 Computer Game Design and Programming. CSci 191 is an interdisciplinary course designed to allow non-technical students interested in story-telling and design to collaborate with students with technical background to produce games in a collaborative environment. The prerequisite for the technical students is CSci 185 while students interested in game design, storytelling, and art should consult with the instructor and get his/her permission to take the course. There are two degree options for students in Computer Science. The Bachelor of Science (BS) concentrates on the technology. The Bachelor of Arts (BA) allows you to explore the use of digital media and computer graphics in the arts, sciences, engineering, business, medicine, and in a number of other disciplines. The expanded breadth is made available through the opportunity to take a number of related courses from other departments. Please visit www.icg.gwu.edu for more information. |
