MCCC Preparation for Computer Science programs at The George Washington University

This page is intended to help students in Montgomery College prepare to transfer to The George Washington University (GW) for one of several undergraduate programs in Computer Science. Students who transfer in from area community colleges are eligible for a transfer scholarship -- please enquire at GW''s Engineering School for more details.

GWU''s Computer Science department offers various specialized programs of study in areas such as Bioinformatics, Digital Media and Computer Security. Not sure which which degree program is best for you? See the undergraduate programs page ( http://www.cs.gwu.edu/academics/) in the Computer Science department website for brief descriptions.

  • B.S. in Computer Science. This is our standard computer science program, accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). It combines depth and focus in Computer Science.
  • B.A. in Computer Science. This program is multidisciplinary, designed for students wishing to combine Computer Science with another major, or combining Computer Science with a combination of secondary fields, all within the same four years it takes for any Bachelor''s degree.
  • B.S. in Computer Science - Bioinformatics Option. The standard BS program with a concentration in the emerging new field of Bioinformatics.
  • B.A. in Computer Science - Bioinformatics Option. A dual-BA (BA in CS and BA in Biology) program focusing on Bioinformatics. This program gives you Bachelor''s degrees in both Computer Science and Biology within four years, as well as coursework in bioinformatics, and satisfies the requirements for entrance to medical school.
  • B.S. in Computer Science - Medical Preparation Option. The standard BS program with electives carefully selected to meet requirements for entry into medical school.
  • B.A. in Computer Science - Medical Preparation Option. The standard BA program with electives carefully selected to meet requirements for entry into Medical School.
  • B.S. in Computer Science - Computer Security Option. This program has all the core Computer Science courses as well as additional courses that lead to a concentration in the growing area of Computer Security and Information Assurance.
  • B.A or B.S. in Computer Science - Digital Media Option. These programs lead to a specialization in digital media, encompassing areas such as Computer Graphics, Animation and Multimedia.
Below is a summary of some selected GW courses and their MC equivalents:

Other courses relevant to CS programs:

  • Several MC Humanities and Social Science courses count as GW''s Humanties and Social Science courses. To have this count, you have to identify a GW course (such as Introduction to Photography) and identify the equivalent MC course (such as ART 151). Then, have your GW Computer Science advisor approve the transfer.
  • Several MC Science courses count as GW''s Science courses. Same procedure as above to have these courses count.
